Stainless Steel Metallurgy & Material Integrity
At SS Grill, we do not compromise on alloy chemistry or structural wall thickness. Understand the material science, austenite crystal stabilization, and argon welding standards that guarantee generational longevity.
AISI 304 Stainless Steel
The premier architectural standard containing 18% Chromium and 8% Nickel for exceptional tensile strength and rust prevention in standard urban and inland environments.
Regarding Commercial Grade 202 Alloys
Many generic fabrication shops reduce prices by substituting Grade 304 with Grade 202 (replacing nickel with manganese to lower raw material cost). Grade 202 stainless steel develops tea-staining, pitting, and reddish rust blooms within 6 to 12 months in monsoon or humid environments. SS Grill fabricates exclusively with certified AISI 304 and 316 austenitic stainless steel.
Wall Thickness Standards
Residential Benchmark
Specified for apartment balcony safety infills and window security apertures. Provides deflection resistance while keeping clean, minimal visual profiles.
High-Rise Columns & Posts
Employed for vertical load-bearing posts, high-wind balconies on upper levels, and structural safety gates.
Driveway Gates & Frames
Heavy structural box sections (75×75mm, 100×50mm) engineered for motorized sliding gate tracks and heavy swing gate cantilevers.
Argon TIG Shielding & Chemical Passivation
The most vulnerable part of any metal grill is the weld joint. Ordinary manual stick welding introduces carbon spatter and burns away the protective chromium layer, causing joints to rust while the pipe stays clean.
- Argon-Shielded TIG Joinery: Prevents atmospheric oxygen contamination during the molten weld pool phase, maintaining alloy purity.
- Chemical Pickling & Passivation: An acid passivation wash dissolves free iron particles and immediately regenerates the chromium oxide film over welded seams.
- Hairline Grain Blending: Welds are ground flush and buffed with uniform abrasive belts to match the linear satin texture of adjoining tubes.
Long-Term Material Care
Austenitic stainless steel requires minimal maintenance. Three simple guidelines preserve the factory satin luster:
